Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday inaugurated the Multi Lane Free Flow tolling system on Delhi's Urban Extension Road-II, integrating the capital's transport corridor into India's expanding barrier-less toll network. The move aims to enhance connectivity and travel ease for adjoining villages and surrounding habitations.
The Multi Lane Free Flow system utilizes Automatic Number Plate Recognition and FASTag to enable uninterrupted toll collection, allowing vehicles to pass without halting. This technology-driven upgrade to conventional toll plazas is designed to reduce congestion, shorten travel time, and improve fuel efficiency.
The introduction of the Multi Lane Free Flow system on UER-II follows the earlier launch of the country's first such system at the Chorayasi Toll Plaza on the Surat-Bharuch stretch of NH-48 in Gujarat.
The National Highways Authority of India has advised users to maintain adequate balance in their FASTag accounts to ensure smooth usage. In cases of insufficient balance or invalid FASTags, users will receive an Electronic Notice for non-payment of user fees, which must be paid within 72 hours.
The court or relevant authorities are yet to announce the next steps or official responses regarding the implementation and monitoring of the Multi Lane Free Flow tolling system.
