Biocon shares slid 0.8% to ₹348.3 on Wednesday after the company announced that it has locked in launch dates for Pebrilzo, its biosimilar to Genentech’s Perjeta. The filing, dated 14 Oct, states the drug will hit the EU and UK markets in Q1 2027 and the US in Q3 2028, with a wider global rollout slated for 2026‑2028.
The agreement also resolves all pending patent disputes between Biocon and Genentech in the US, Canada and other jurisdictions, according to the exchange filing. By settling these claims, Biocon removes a major regulatory hurdle that had delayed Pebrilzo’s commercial launch.
Pebrilzo targets HER2‑positive breast cancer patients and could tap into a market estimated at $15 bn worldwide, where biosimilars are capturing roughly 12% of the reference product’s revenue each year. If the launch proceeds as scheduled, Biocon could see a 4‑5% lift in its oncology portfolio sales in 2027.
The stock’s 10% year‑to‑date decline reflects broader caution in the pharma sector, where investors weigh patent expirations against biosimilar competition. Analysts at Kotak Mahindra have lowered their price target by ₹8, citing the need for sustained growth beyond the launch.
Looking ahead, Biocon has not issued new guidance yet, but the company plans to file a Q4 earnings report next month. Market watchers will be watching the Q4 numbers for early signs of how the Pebrilzo launch translates into revenue, and whether the company can turn its 2027 prospects into a rally in the stock price.
