Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Announces Free Electricity, Women's Safety Task Force

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has signed papers allowing 200 units of free electricity for domestic consumers, setting up a special force for women's safety, and establishing anti-drug trafficking units across the state. Vijay took oath as the Chief Minister on Sunday in a ceremony attended by top Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Vijay's maiden cabinet consists of a mix of young and experienced members, with his core team finding place in the ministry. In his address, Vijay said a new era of a regime committed to 'real secularism and social justice' has commenced and asserted that he will be the only centre of power.

The family of TVK chief Vijay expressed joy and pride as they prepared for his swearing-in ceremony, with his mother, Shoba Chandrasekhar, expressing confidence in her son's new role.

Vijay is expected to prove his majority on the floor of the Assembly through a vote of confidence on or before May 13. The immediate next steps include the formation of the special task force for women's safety and the implementation of the anti-drug trafficking units.
