Ed Sheeran Foundation, launched in 2025, aims to improve access to high‑quality music education for children who might otherwise be excluded because of financial or social barriers—an effort that echoes the singer’s own childhood experience.
AP News reports the foundation has partnered with 18 schools and grassroots organisations, providing instruments, lessons and creative experiences to communities that include children from low‑income households, those in care and youngsters with special educational needs.
Rather than spotlighting individual talent, the programme focuses on strengthening the organisations that deliver music education at the community level. 12,000 young people have already benefited, a figure that reflects the scale of the challenge and the reach of the foundation’s support.
The foundation’s ambition extends beyond lessons; it seeks to open pathways into the wider music industry, offering apprenticeships in songwriting, production, touring and technical operations—fields that employed 216,000 people in the UK last year.
Ed Sheeran himself visited schools in Cardiff, Coventry, Edinburgh and Belfast to launch the initiative, sharing how early exposure to music shaped his career and encouraging students to consider music as a serious career path. The foundation now plans to grow its partner network and expand its reach to more disadvantaged children in the coming year.
