Standard 2026 World Cup Final Ticket Listed for $11.5 Million on Resale Market
A standard ticket for the 2026 FIFA World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, has been listed for $11.5 million (£8.5 million) on a secondary market, according to resale data highlighted by Sky Sports. The ticket, located in block 307, row 22, seat 12, offers a regular view of the pitch and includes no hospitality, meet-and-greets, or exclusive access. The final is scheduled for July 19, 2026, as part of the first 48-team tournament co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Official FIFA ticket prices for the final range up to $11,000, with category one seats initially capped at $1,550 but later listed at $10,990 during open sale. Category three tickets were priced at $5,785, a significant increase from the 2022 Qatar World Cup final's top price of $1,600. Earlier resale listings for four seats behind the goal reached $2.3 million each, drawing public scrutiny. FIFA President Gianni Infantino responded at the Milken Institute Global Conference, stating ticket pricing reflects the U.S. entertainment market and that resale is legally permitted.
Infantino dismissed the $11.5 million listing as symbolic, saying such prices do not reflect actual sales and questioned buyer intent. He also noted that artificially low official prices would only fuel higher resale markups. FIFA collects a 15% fee from buyers and a 15% resale fee from sellers on transactions through authorized platforms, according to The Guardian. With over 500 million ticket requests logged during the ballot phase, demand has remained exceptionally high.
FIFA officials have reiterated that most tickets are priced below $170 and aimed at fans, but the surge in resale listings has intensified debate over accessibility. The organization will continue monitoring resale activity as the tournament approaches. The first matches of the 2026 World Cup are set to begin on June 11, with ticket distribution and security protocols under ongoing review.
