NDA Leaders to Meet Assam Governor Over Government Formation

Leaders of the BJP-led NDA will meet Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Sunday at 11:15 a.m. to discuss the formation of the next government in the state. The meeting is scheduled at the Lok Bhawan, where matters about the new government will be discussed.
The NDA, which comprises the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) in Assam, won a two-thirds majority in the Assembly polls, with the BJP securing 82 seats and its allies winning 10 seats each in the 126-member House.
Before the meeting with the Governor, the BJP and its allies’ legislature parties will meet at 9 a.m. to elect the new leader of the legislature party, with Union Minister J.P. Nadda and Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini present as central observer and co-observer, respectively.
The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled on May 12 at 11 a.m. in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the NDA is expected to stake claim to form the government after the election of the new leader, who will then meet the Governor to formalize the process. The court is not involved in this process, but the Governor will resume the process of government formation after the meeting with the NDA leaders.
