The Congress party's leadership in Delhi will decide on the next Chief Minister of Kerala after the party's massive win in the state, with a unanimous resolution passed by newly elected Congress MLAs authorizing the party high command to choose the leader. The UDF secured 102 seats in the 140-seat House, marking a major comeback for Congress after the Left Democratic Front's ten-year rule in the state came to an end.
The Congress observers for Kerala, Ajay Maken and Mukul Wasnik, held one-on-one meetings with newly elected MLAs, MPs, and former MPs before preparing their report for the party leadership.
According to sources, party president Mallikarjun Kharge has called KC Venugopal, VD Satheesan, and Ramesh Chennithala to Delhi for discussions before taking the final call, with Venugopal being seen as a strong contender due to his close equation with the Congress high command and proximity to Rahul Gandhi.
The party is expected to announce its decision soon, with the next steps including the formal announcement of the new Chief Minister and the formation of the state government. The court is not involved in this decision-making process, and the party will resume its activities after the announcement.
