Bikram Singh Majithia didn't mince words. In a blistering post on X on Thursday, the Shiromani Akali Dal leader accused the Bhagwant Mann government and Amritsar Rural SSP Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal of failing to protect citizens, citing the early morning murder of Tarsem Singh, a numberdar from Kot Khehra village.
Majithia claimed Tarsem Singh was struck on the head and killed at 6:30 am while buying supplies for his shop. He alleged Chahal allowed this chaos while allegedly involved in illegal mining, facilitating bail for heroin traffickers, and registering fake FIRs to shield criminals. “Suspending a few officers will not bring back those who died,” Majithia wrote, directly naming Parvinder Singh Jhota and Gulzar Singh. “The countdown of your government has begun,” he warned Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
This isn't just a local crime complaint; it's a political grenade. Majithia is leveraging the Jhota case, which triggered massive protests after the anti-drug activist was shot dead inside a medical store in Mansa on October 13, to paint the entire AAP administration as complicit in Punjab's drug and crime crisis. The case was handed to the CBI, and the state suspended the Mansa SHO, DSP, and a drug inspector, but Majithia argues these measures are insufficient.
The political stakes are rising. With the Centre having granted X-category security to the families of Jhota and Gulzar Singh following assurances from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the SAD is positioning itself as the only voice demanding accountability. Majithia’s attack signals a sustained offensive on the AAP’s law-and-order record, turning a single murder in Majitha into a statewide referendum on the government's competence.
Police have not yet released an official statement on the specific circumstances of Tarsem Singh’s killing or the allegations against SSP Chahal. The next 48 hours will be critical as the SAD mobilizes support and the AAP government scrambles to contain the narrative, with Majithia poised to escalate if no immediate, visible action is taken against the accused officer.
