The Enforcement Directorate launched searches at the residence of Gurpreet Singh alias Prince, nephew of Punjab Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian, in Sahnewal on 23 September 2026. The raid was part of a broader probe into alleged money‑laundering linked to GMADA and related entities.
Former Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu took to Twitter, asserting that Mundian had fled to the United States during the ED’s operation, implying that the minister could not defend himself. He framed the allegation as evidence of political interference in the investigation.
Mundian, addressing the press from the AAP office in Sector 39, Chandigarh, denied the claim, saying, "I am addressing this press conference from the party office in Sector 39, Chandigarh, not from America." He also mocked Bittu by calling him a "travel agency" that had already "booked tickets" to send him and his nephew abroad. The minister clarified that Gurpreet is his nephew, not nephew‑in‑law, countering Bittu’s earlier mischaracterisation.
The confrontation has reframed the ED’s action as a political play, with AAP accusing the BJP of leveraging the raid for pressure. Bittu used the incident to question Mundian’s whereabouts, while Mundian turned the accusation back on the former minister.
The ED is expected to release a formal statement on its findings by the end of the month. Both parties have called for a parliamentary inquiry into the raid, signalling a likely escalation in the political dispute.
