Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday instructed District Collectors to extend benefits applicable to Scheduled Castes, except jobs-related reservations, to the Budaga Jangam community, pending central approval for their inclusion in the Scheduled Castes category. The directive was issued during a review of welfare initiatives, housing programmes, and social justice measures at the 7th Collectors’ Conference.
The Chief Minister also instructed the Collectors to ensure eligible beneficiaries received welfare support under existing government schemes.
The state government's move is aimed at addressing the long-pending demand for the inclusion of the Budaga Jangam community in the Scheduled Castes category.
The Collectors have been directed to implement the Chief Minister's instructions, with the state government set to follow up on the matter with the Centre. The next steps in the process are expected to involve consultations with central authorities, with the state government seeking to secure approval for the community's inclusion in the Scheduled Castes category.
