Tamil Nadu Polls: TVK Chief Vijay Faces Hurdles in Forming Government
TVK Chief Vijay, who won a landslide victory in the Tamil Nadu polls, is facing obstacles in forming a government due to lack of majority support. Vijay's party has won 108 seats, and he himself has won 2 seats, but will have to vacate one seat, leaving the party with 107 seats, short of the 118 seats required for a majority.
The Governor of Tamil Nadu has explained to Vijay that the requisite majority support in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly has not been established, prompting Vijay to explore alliances with smaller parties such as CPI, CPI (M), and VCK.
The DMK has reportedly softened its stance, allowing smaller parties in alliance to back TVK if they want, while all 108 MLAs of TVK have threatened to resign if DMK and AIADMK attempt to stake claim to form government.
The immediate outlook is that Vijay's team is exploring legal options as the political stalemate deepens in Tamil Nadu, with the Governor's office likely to play a crucial role in the formation of the government.
