Rahul Gandhi posted on X a detailed itinerary for the Sunday march, saying the route would start at Minto Road near Connaught Place, cut through Ajmeri Gate, and finish at Ramlila Maidan.
Delhi Police sources said no application had been filed for the proposed march, citing Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, which restricts assemblies in the capital. They noted that Jantar Mantar, the usual protest hub, has been de‑notified, and that MPs and other leaders are free to travel in private vehicles.
The INDIA bloc’s public impeachment programme against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was rescheduled from Saturday to Sunday because of rain. Rahul Gandhi said the decision was taken by consensus to avoid inconvenience for senior leaders.
Gandhi also alleged that Union Home Minister Amit Shah was actively preventing people from UP, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Telangana, Punjab and other states from reaching Delhi for the rally. He claimed that Shah’s actions were aimed at limiting the opposition’s participation.
To counter potential disorder, Delhi Police will mobilise personnel from the Central District and deploy paramilitary forces around Ramlila Maidan on Sunday.
The march will go ahead as scheduled, but without official clearance, and Delhi Police will enforce Section 163 restrictions while maintaining heightened security at the rally site.
