ECI Releases 2026 Assembly Poll Data Within 72 Hours in Record Time
The Election Commission of India (ECI) released index cards and statistical reports for the 2026 Legislative Assembly elections and bye-elections on May 8, 2026, within 72 hours of the results, setting a new benchmark for data transparency. The release covers all 830 Assembly constituencies where voting concluded on May 6, 2026, and includes candidate details, votes polled, elector data, and party-wise performance.
The data is now accessible via the ECINET App and the official ECI website, following digital reforms implemented over the past year. Previously, compiling such reports manually took weeks or months, but the ECINET platform has streamlined the process. The Commission issued 14 detailed statistical reports, offering breakdowns of voter turnout, gender-wise participation, and constituency-level results.
This is the first time the ECI has made such comprehensive data available within three days of election results. The Commission described the move as a suo-moto initiative to enhance transparency for researchers, political parties, and the public. It clarified that while the published reports are based on secondary data, the statutory forms maintained by Returning Officers remain the official record.
A re-poll has been scheduled for the Falta Assembly constituency in West Bengal on May 21, 2026, following voting irregularities reported during the second phase on April 29. The re-poll will cover all polling stations in the constituency, with results set to be declared on May 24, 2026.
