West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has appointed retired IAS officer Subrata Gupta as his advisor, according to a notification issued on Saturday. Gupta, a 1990 batch officer, was previously engaged by the Election Commission as the Special Roll Observer for the SIR exercise prior to the recently-concluded assembly elections.
The new BJP government has also appointed IAS officer Shantanu Bala as the chief minister's private secretary, as per another notification. Bala, a 2017 batch officer, was previously the additional district magistrate of South 24 Parganas.
Both officers have been asked to take charge of their new assignments immediately. The government has also transferred 46 WBCS (Executive) officers and reassigned 16 officers posted in the Chief Minister's Office.
The appointments and transfers are part of the restructuring of the Chief Minister's Office following the change in government. The Chief Minister's Office will now work under the new administration, with Gupta and Bala playing key roles in policy coordination and governance-related matters. The government is expected to announce further appointments and changes in the coming days.
