TMC MP Mahua Moitra Alleges Harassment on Delhi Flight, Demands Action Against Group
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra on Wednesday alleged she was harassed by a group of men who boarded her Delhi-bound IndiGo flight and later chanted political slogans at her as the aircraft prepared to land.
Moitra, the Lok Sabha member from Krishnanagar, West Bengal, stated that 4-6 men boarded the flight in a group, leered at her, and went to the rear of the plane. She shared a video on social media platform X showing individuals chanting, "Jai Shri Ram... Chor... Chor... Trinamool Chor." The MP said the incident occurred before the aircraft doors opened upon landing.
"This is no 'citizen anger'. This is harassment and violates my safety in an aircraft," Moitra posted, tagging the airline and demanding the men be named, shamed, and placed on a no-fly list. She added the airline had informed her that a formal complaint was required, which she stated she was preparing to submit.
The allegation comes in the wake of the BJP's decisive victory in the recent West Bengal Assembly elections, where it secured 217 seats against the TMC's 80. Moitra had previously stated her party "respects the mandate" of the people but would continue to fight for a secular country.
IndiGo is yet to issue a public statement on the matter. The airline's response is awaited following Moitra's formal complaint.
