Railways Crack Down on Level Crossing Violations

The Railway Protection Force (RPF), Thiruvananthapuram Division, has reported a total of 104 railway level crossing gate dash incidents in 2025 and 27 such incidents so far in 2026, prompting the enforcement of strict measures to stop such dangerous violations. The RPF, in coordination with the Motor Vehicles department, has intensified action against motorists violating safety rules at railway level crossings.
The measures include suspension of driving licenses of offenders, criminal proceedings, and recovery of damages caused to railway property, under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
According to the Railways, most violations happen due to rash driving, speeding near level crossings, impatience, and attempts to cross after warning signals are given or gates are closed.
The road users are advised to stop their vehicles immediately when warning signals are given or when the gate starts closing, and never attempt to cross the level crossing while the gate is closing or after it is closed. The Railways will continue to monitor the situation and take strict action against offenders, with the next steps including increased surveillance and enforcement at level crossings, and coordination with the Motor Vehicles department to implement the new measures.
