Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shafali Verma have been issued notices by India's National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) for missing scheduled dope tests in 2023, sources confirmed. Both players are part of NADA's Registered Testing Pool (RTP), which requires athletes to provide accurate whereabouts and remain available for unannounced testing during designated daily windows.
NADA has informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) of the missed tests, marking the players' first 'whereabouts failure.' Under World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules, a single missed test is recorded as a warning, but three such failures within 12 months constitute an anti-doping rule violation, potentially leading to suspensions.
The BCCI acknowledged receipt of the notification, with a source stating the board would investigate how the lapses occurred and take steps to prevent recurrence. Thirteen Indian cricketers, including Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant, are currently in the RTP. The issue gains significance as cricket is set to return to the Olympic programme at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, requiring stricter compliance with global anti-doping standards.
NADA is expected to monitor future compliance closely, while the BCCI plans to reinforce player education on doping regulations. The agency will assess whether further action is needed based on any additional reporting discrepancies over the next year.
