Andhra Pradesh has stockpiled 8.44 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of fertilizer for the Kharif 2026 season, surpassing current monthly requirements and ensuring availability through the peak sowing period ending in July. The Agriculture Department estimates total seasonal demand at 16.28 LMT and says the early accumulation is intended to mitigate supply chain disruptions and market fluctuations.
Urea stocks stand at 242,158 metric tonnes as of May 8, 2026, more than seven times the 30,951 metric tonnes needed for the remainder of May and sufficient until mid-July. Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) reserves are at 94,269 metric tonnes—nearly 18 times the remaining May requirement—with supplies expected to last until the end of July despite April sales doubling the three-year average. Stocks of NPK, MOP, and SSP are also distributed across company godowns, wholesalers, and retailers.
Surveillance teams involving Vigilance, Police, and Revenue officials have been deployed to monitor distribution, prevent illegal hoarding, and stop diversion of fertilizers to non-agricultural uses or neighboring states. Agriculture Director M.J. Samoon said strict action will be taken against negligence or misconduct in procurement and distribution, emphasizing scientific and rational use.
The Agriculture Department is tracking daily stock movements and transit data through its 'Go-Live' system to maintain supply sufficiency until the end of the forecast period in July. The government will continue to coordinate logistics and enforcement to ensure timely delivery to farmers and prevent market distortions.
