Dilan Ashar, a 22‑year‑old University of Maryland student, vanished on Oct 2 after last appearing on campus surveillance, prompting a critical missing‑person investigation.
Police say Ashar left his dorm at 2 a.m., last seen at 2:30 a.m. in a black hoodie in the Terrapin Trail Garage. He has no mobile, wallet, ID, and his parents last spoke to him at 6 p.m. on Oct 1.
Since the report, UMD Police have flown a drone over wooded areas near the garage, deployed nine K‑9 units, and scoured 110 acres with 50 responders on Oct 4. A drone also searched the university golf course, while officers repeatedly checked parking garages, lake Artemesia, and nearby parks.
In a recorded message, Ashar’s mother pleaded, "We love you so much. We want you home." She urged students and locals to examine their own security footage for clues.
The department is reviewing all surveillance footage and inviting anonymous tips via its website. The investigation remains open, with searches scheduled to resume next week.
