The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has demanded direct political consultations from Thalapathy Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) as a precondition for support in forming the Tamil Nadu government, rejecting reports that TVK sought backing through WhatsApp messages asking leaders to 'reply and let us know.' VCK general secretary Sinthanai Selvan criticized the method as unsuitable during a constitutional crisis, stating that Vijay should have personally engaged with alliance partners to prevent BJP influence through the Governor.
VCK accused second-rung TVK leaders of exploiting Vijay's public image to settle scores with the DMK and dismissed claims that DMK and AIADMK leaders would be arrested under a TVK government as 'arrogant and irresponsible.' The party also questioned TVK's criticism of dynastic politics while seeking support from Congress and DMK-allied parties, calling the stance contradictory.
The party condemned the revival of 'resort politics,' alleging that TVK began accommodating MLAs in resorts instead of building consensus through dialogue. It simultaneously accused the BJP of attempting to engineer Governor's Rule in Tamil Nadu and urged public vigilance against efforts to undermine the election mandate.
Sources told Times Now that TVK has secured support from 116 MLAs, including five from Congress, falling short of the 117 majority mark. Vijay met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar for the third time in 48 hours and formally staked claim to form the government.
The Governor has not yet announced a decision on government formation. The court will resume hearing on Tuesday.
