K. Lakshmi, a woman from Vaasalatippa village in Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, was repatriated to India on Friday after being stranded in Muscat, Oman. According to V. Subba Rao, nodal officer of Konaseema Centre for Migration, Ms. Lakshmi was sent to Muscat in September 2025 to work as a housemaid, but was subjected to physical harassment at her workplace.
Ms. Lakshmi's family sought help from the Konaseema Centre for Migration, which initiated steps for her rescue and repatriation.
The circumstances of her stranding and repatriation were confirmed by the Konaseema Centre for Migration in an official release.
The court or relevant authorities have not commented on the matter, but the repatriation of Ms. Lakshmi brings an end to her ordeal in Muscat. The immediate next steps will involve providing support to Ms. Lakshmi and her family, and potentially investigating the local agent who sent her to Muscat.
