The Gauhati High Court on 27 October 2025 released Mahanta from jail after 12 months of confinement.
Mahanta stands accused on six charges, including murder under Section 103(1), criminal conspiracy under Section 61(2) and evidence tampering under Section 238 of the Indian Penal Code. She is joined by three co‑defendants in the case.
The murder case stems from Garg’s death in Singapore on 19 September 2025, when his body was found in a hotel room with signs of foul play. Investigators allege that the co‑singers were involved in a planned conspiracy.
The bail was granted on a Rs 50 000 bond, but the court has not yet issued a detailed order outlining the conditions; Mahanta’s counsel expects a formal decree within weeks.
Senior Advocate Ziaul Kamar, representing Mahanta, said the decision reflects procedural fairness, while supporters in Assam called for a swift trial to bring justice to the singer’s family.
The special fast‑track court will convene on 15 November to decide on further bail conditions and move the case forward.
