A five-year-old girl, identified as Gousia, was killed and her younger sister, Shakila, injured after a compound wall and gate collapsed on them while they were playing in front of their house in Dwarakanagar on Friday. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. when the two children were playing near the gate and had climbed onto it, causing the three-feet pillar connecting the gate to the compound wall to suddenly give way.
The girls sustained severe head injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Gousia later succumbed to her injuries. Shakila suffered injuries to her legs and is undergoing treatment, with her condition reported as stable.
The family lived in a one-bedroom rented house owned by Ravi Shankar, with the mother, Ramiza, working as a fruit vendor and the father, Imam, employed elsewhere.
The Chikkabanavara police have registered an Unnatural Death Report and said a negligence case could be filed against the house owner if the victim’s family submits a formal complaint. The police are currently investigating the incident and the family is awaiting further action, with the next steps expected to be taken in the coming days.
