Ramesh Yadav, the BJP’s newly appointed State Secretary for the Backward Classes Wing, was seized and robbed of Rs 50 lakh at his Kanpur farmhouse on the night of Oct. 12, 2023. The raid followed Yadav’s return from Lucknow, where he had assumed office on Oct. 1; he had spent the day campaigning and meeting constituents before heading home in the evening. Masked men burst into the farmhouse in Sen‑Paschim Para, tied Yadav’s hands and feet, and fled after ransacking the property, taking cash, jewellery and other valuables.
Yadav’s wife, Shashi, who has also served as a Block Incharge, was present during the incident and was taken aback by the sudden intrusion. Joint Police Commissioner Dr Vipin Tada and DCP Deependra Nath Chaudhary arrived at the scene overnight, accompanied by a heavy contingent of officers. The police immediately began securing the premises and collecting evidence.
Investigators are scrutinising CCTV footage from the farmhouse and surrounding areas to track the perpetrators. According to reports, 14 staff members – including four security guards, four gunmen and a driver – have been rounded up for questioning, but no suspect has yet been identified. The case remains open, with authorities urging witnesses to come forward and offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of the masked robbers.
