Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has resigned as member elected from Tiruchi East constituency to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, an official communication said. Mr. Vijay’s resignation was handed over to Principal Secretary of the Legislative Assembly K. Srinivasan on Sunday by his Cabinet colleagues K.A. Sengottaiyan and P. Venkataramanan.
Mr. Vijay was elected from Perambur and Tiruchi East constituencies to the Assembly during the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The resignation will necessitate a bypoll to Tiruchi East constituency.
The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly will likely take further action on the resignation and bypoll in the coming days, with an official announcement expected soon. The court or election commission will then decide on the date for the bypoll.
