Shares of Karur Vysya Bank climbed 1.6% to ₹346.6 after the lender announced its Q2 earnings—its first up‑day since the mid‑month dip.
According to the bank’s filing with the BSE, net profit surged to ₹788 crore from ₹574 crore a year earlier, a 37.2% jump that eclipsed the 30% consensus estimate. Core income, or net interest income, climbed 19% to ₹1,497.3 crore, up from ₹1,261 crore in the same quarter last year.
Asset quality improved: gross non‑performing assets fell to 0.69% from 0.74% sequentially, and net NPA contracted to 0.18% from 0.19%. Provisions rose marginally to ₹118.5 crore, a 31% increase from ₹90.3 crore, yet still far below the ₹274.4 crore recorded a year ago.
Analysts note the bank’s performance sits above the 7.4% average return on assets for the banking sector in Q2, and its margin expansion contrasts with peers like Kotak Mahindra, which reported a 2.5% decline in net interest margin. The market has priced in a steady trajectory, with the stock trading 29% higher year‑to‑date.
Looking ahead, management reiterated its focus on maintaining asset quality while targeting a 3% increase in net interest income in Q3. The bank will file Q3 results on November 30, and investors will be watching the upcoming credit‑risk metrics closely for signs of the broader sector trend.
