West Bengal Assembly Dissolved Amid Political Violence
The West Bengal Assembly was dissolved early Wednesday after Chandranath Rath, a close aide of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was shot dead in North 24 Parganas. The incident, described by the BJP as a 'targeted assassination,' triggered immediate protests and accusations of political violence.
Rath's killing occurred amid rising tensions following the party's recent electoral setbacks. Police are investigating the shooting, which has intensified calls for accountability. The dissolution effectively halts legislative activities until elections are held.
TVK founder Vijay convened a meeting of his party's MLAs-designate in Kolkata on Thursday to discuss government formation. He is expected to meet Governor C. N. Ravi today to finalize arrangements. This follows the party's recent electoral gains in the state.
Operation Sindoor, launched by India last May in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, remains a separate context. The airstrikes targeted nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, eliminating over 100 terrorists. No direct link to the West Bengal violence has been established.
The Governor's meeting with Vijay marks a critical step in stabilizing political negotiations. Officials have not yet confirmed whether the Assembly's dissolution will be reversed post-elections.
