AIIMS-Mangalagiri conducted basic newborn resuscitation training for doctors and nursing officers on Sunday, May 10, 2026, as part of the National Neonatology Forum's Neonatal Resuscitation Programme (NRP) Day. The programme aimed to strengthen emergency care skills to reduce newborn deaths in the critical first 24 hours of life.
The institute cited government data showing nearly 40% of neonatal deaths occur within the first day, with 15-20% linked to birth asphyxia. Experts emphasized that timely bag-and-mask ventilation by trained personnel during delivery, along with antenatal care and intrapartum monitoring per WHO guidelines, could prevent many deaths.
Participants included AIIMS-Mangalagiri Director Ahanthem Santa Singh, Dean (Academics) Desu Ramamohan, neonatologist Mandula Phani Priya, and faculty from the Department of Paediatrics, obstetrics, and nursing. The training focused on hands-on resuscitation techniques and protocol adherence for delivery room emergencies.
The institute said it will continue regular NRP sessions for medical staff, with the next scheduled cycle set for June 2026.
