Bimol Akoijam, the former JNU professor who was dismissed on Oct. 9, is set to appear before Delhi Police on Thursday to answer the sexual‑harassment allegations that sparked the inquiry. He departed Imphal airport at 1:20 pm for a 1:50 pm IndiGo flight to Delhi, as confirmed by his email reply to the police notice.
Eleven female students filed complaints in May, accusing Akoijam of inviting them to his residence under the pretext of meetings and attempting sexual advances, with some alleging obscene remarks in class. He has denied all charges, insisting he has nothing to hide.
The MP said he had already submitted a written response on May 31 and testified before the JNU Internal Complaints Committee in August, arguing that witnesses had been heard. His statements are contested by the committee, and he has challenged the release of records.
A delegation of BJP women MPs met Speaker Om Birla on Thursday, demanding that Akoijam be held accountable. He vowed to fight for justice, saying truth would eventually emerge.
The Delhi Police investigation is scheduled to begin with his appearance on Thursday evening, with further hearings expected to follow; the outcome could shape the political fallout and potential legal actions against Akoijam.
