Lemon Tree Hotels Ltd. is betting big on the eastern corridor, unveiling Keys Prima in Darjeeling on Wednesday. The 65-room property, situated on Old Kutchery Road, marks the chain’s first entry into the hill town and its third operational hotel in West Bengal. It is managed by Carnation Hotels Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary, signaling a dedicated operational structure for this new territory.
The market didn't react with jitters. Lemon Tree shares ended trading at ₹104.25 on the BSE. For investors, this isn't just a room count; it's a geographic expansion play. The company has three more West Bengal properties in the pipeline, suggesting a concentrated push in a high-growth tourism region where competition is less saturated than in Delhi or Bengaluru.
Vishvapreet Singh Cheema, President of Lemon Tree Hotels, framed the move around the "experience-led" traveler. "Darjeeling remains one of India's most-loved hill destinations... This makes Darjeeling a natural fit for Keys Prima," he said. The pitch is clear: capture the family weekend crowd and the younger demographic seeking curated experiences, leveraging the town's tea estates and mountain views as core selling points rather than just amenities.
Operationally, the property is well-positioned. It sits 70 km from Bagdogra Airport and just 2.5 km from Darjeeling Railway Station, a critical distance for logistics and guest flow. The mix includes Superior Rooms, Deluxe Rooms, and Executive Suites, alongside a Keys Café and an outdoor lawn for events. This setup targets both leisure and small corporate/social gatherings, diversifying revenue streams beyond standard room occupancy.
This launch follows a busy period for the hospitality major, which recently acquired Mumbai land for ₹120 crore and signed a 90-room hotel in Telangana. With 20 more hotels in pipeline across Gujarat and other states, the focus is on volume and geographic spread. For traders watching the BSE ticker, the steady price action suggests the market is already pricing in these incremental additions, looking for the next big catalyst in earnings or acquisition news.
