The 104th obedience test at the Ooty Dog Show began May 8, 2026, at the Government Arts College ground in Udhagamandalam, marking the start of a three-day event featuring a record 55 dog breeds and more than 435 entries. The South of India Kennel Club (SIKC), the second-oldest affiliated club in India, is conducting the show, the first annual edition since 2022 after a pandemic-related hiatus.
Philip Butt judged the obedience test, which included 49 dogs and featured participation from the Tamil Nadu Police Canine Squad. Preetham judged the Beagle and Indian breeds speciality shows, while Quique Boza Alpheratz presided over the Dachshund speciality event. Hundreds of local residents and tourists attended the opening day.
The show will continue with the 138th and 139th Championship shows on Saturday and Sunday, including the P. Dharmu Memorial Championship Dog Show. SIKC president Rajini Krishnamurthy confirmed the record number of entries, attributing the growth to rising public interest in canine events.
