The Lokayukta police caught Police Inspector Veeranna Doddamani of Gurmitkal Police Station red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh from complainant Anand Bhajantri late on Saturday evening. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (Lokayukta) J.H. Inamdar, the bribe was demanded for not arresting the accused in crime number 95/2026 and filing a charge-sheet in crime number 96/2026.
The police inspector was taken into custody at his residential quarters in Gurmitkal after the Lokayukta police team laid a trap. The bribe amount of ₹1 lakh was recovered from the inspector.
An investigation into the matter is currently under way.
The Lokayukta police will continue to investigate the case and may file charges against the inspector. The court will likely hear the case in the coming days, and the inspector may face disciplinary action from the police department.
