Mohsen Rezaei, head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, declared on Saturday that Tehran has delivered seven non-negotiable conditions to the United States to end the Middle East war, which has now entered its seventh month. Rezaei stated that the US must accept these terms if it wants to avoid further entanglement in the conflict.
The conditions, detailed in an interview with Qatar's Al Jazeera, require an immediate end to the war on all fronts, the release of Iranian assets seized by Washington, and the lifting of the US naval blockade on Iranian ports. Rezaei also demanded a halt to the fighting between Yemen's Houthis and Saudi Arabia, which has recently escalated the conflict.
"We remain in contact with the mediator Qatar, which has conveyed our conditions to Washington with the aim of ending the war. We are awaiting President [Donald] Trump's response," Rezaei told Al Jazeera. He warned that Trump's threats would yield no results and that Iran was prepared for a decisive war if necessary.
The conflict erupted on February 28 when US and Israeli forces jointly struck Iran, killing several top leaders including the then 86-year-old Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iranian forces targeted American and Israeli assets across the region. Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed a 14-point ceasefire deal on June 17, but Trump declared the agreement "over" on July 8.
Tehran suspended the memorandum of understanding a week later, accusing Washington of violating all its commitments, including failing to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and lift the naval blockade. Rezaei noted that a new US strike on Iran is "very much on the cards" based on military assessments, and that Tehran is now working under a new strategy to end the war as quickly as possible.
