Anjali, 28, died at a private hospital in Firozabad after delivering a boy on Monday morning, her family alleges, following an incident at Labhaua village on Sunday night. The family claims Sub-Inspector Dharmpal Singh kicked her in the abdomen when she pleaded with officers not to take her husband, Gaurav, 32, into custody for a theft case.
Superintendent of Police Aditya Langhe suspended six personnel—SIs Dharmpal Singh and Satyapal Singh, Head Constables Mohan Singh and Arvind Kumar, and Constables Bhavtosh Kumar and Kuldeep Kumar—on Monday for negligence. Additional Superintendent of Police Ravi Shankar Prasad confirmed the suspensions and stated that Anjali’s post-mortem was conducted late Sunday night, with her last rites performed immediately after.
Ramjilal Suman, Samajwadi Party national general secretary, staged a sit-in at Shikohabad police station, demanding a murder case be filed against the officers. “We have demanded that a case of murder be registered against the accused policemen,” Suman told PTI, noting that police have requested three days for the decision. The newborn, born in critical condition, has been referred to Agra.
Police released Gaurav after learning of his wife’s death, though villagers reportedly created a ruckus at the station questioning the force used.
