Rakul Preet Singh didn’t mince words. After nearly a week of speculation following the Income Tax Department’s sweep across 12 locations in Mumbai, the actress took to social media to cut through the noise. She stated plainly that the searches had nothing to do with her, calling the media reports "false, malicious and speculative."
The core of her defense rests on her background and record. "I am from the Armed Forces background & had no Godfather in the Industry," she wrote, emphasizing that she rose through "sheer hardwork." She claimed to have been a "responsible law abiding citizen" paying taxes since the age of 20. She also denied holding any benami property or being involved in illegal foreign remittances, either personally or for any production house.
The raids, launched on September 28, were reportedly linked to her father-in-law and producer Vashu Bhagnani, along with Panorama Studios. Investigators are probing alleged fund irregularities where money might be routed abroad under the guise of film financing. The timing is tense; Vashu Bhagnani was recently hospitalized in London amid these probes.
Rakul’s statement comes against a backdrop of personal scrutiny for her family. Last December, Mumbai Police’s EAGLE force arrested two businessmen in a drug case, alleging her brother, Aman Preet Singh, had purchased narcotics from them on five occasions. While the IT case targets financial flows, Rakul is firmly drawing a line between her family’s other legal battles and her own professional integrity.
As for her work, the storm isn’t stopping her schedule. She is currently filming Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming Ramayana, playing Shurpanakha alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash. Her last release was Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. The IT department is still verifying documents, but Rakul is asking the press to stop treating unverified rumors as fact.
