Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as Chief Minister of West Bengal on Saturday at Kolkata's Brigade Parade Ground, marking the BJP's first government in the state. West Bengal Governor RN Ravi administered the oaths of office and secrecy to Adhikari and a council of senior party leaders, forming the inaugural BJP-led cabinet in the eastern state.
The newly inducted ministers include Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Kshudiram Tudu, and Nishit Pramanik. The ceremony was attended by thousands of BJP supporters from across India and neighboring regions, with the venue filled with saffron flags and chants of 'Jai Shri Ram' and pro-Modi slogans.
Cultural performances, including Chhou and tribal dances, preceded the event, reflecting the party's effort to align regional traditions with its national campaign imagery. Security was heightened across Kolkata, with major roadblocks and aerial surveillance deployed near the parade ground.
The formation of the government follows the BJP's decisive victory in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. The Chief Minister's office will convene its first cabinet meeting on Monday to finalize key administrative appointments and policy priorities.
