Jaishankar landed in Atlanta late Thursday night, arriving just in time for the Friday session of the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting, where he sat down with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to assess progress in India‑U.S. ties.
The two leaders were joined by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor and India’s Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, underscoring the multilateral nature of the talks.
In a separate but related development, the four quad foreign ministers—India, the U.S., Japan, and Australia—converged in Atlanta on Saturday to discuss strategic cooperation, a second quad meeting scheduled for this year that precedes a potential leaders’ summit in the Philippines next month.
The G20 summit itself will be hosted by President Donald Trump in Miami on December 14‑15, a venue where India‑U.S. trade and security agendas are expected to be hammered out.
Jaishankar posted a brief tweet on X after the meeting, writing, "Appreciated @SecRubio’s hospitality in Atlanta for the @g20org FMM. Took stock of our bilateral cooperation."
Following his Atlanta engagements, Jaishankar is slated to fly to Antigua and Barbuda for the Commonwealth heads of government meeting from November 1‑4, where climate change and trade pledges will be on the agenda.
