Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed the Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand to initiate an inquiry into the alleged sexual harassment of a minor girl by Bandi Bhagirath, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar. The Chief Minister asked the DGP to constitute a special team to comprehensively probe the incident, which was registered at Pet Basheerabad Police Station after a complaint was made on May 8.
The DGP informed the Chief Minister that the police had been busy with security arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the city on Sunday, which had delayed the registration of the case.
The development has drawn attention from women's organisations and political parties, who allege that the police had adopted a soft approach towards Mr. Bhagirath due to his connection to a Union Minister.
The Chief Minister's order for a special team to probe the incident is seen as a move to ensure a thorough investigation and initiate appropriate action. The case will likely be closely monitored, with the Telangana government expected to provide updates on the progress of the investigation in the coming days.
