Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay convened a meeting with top state officials on Sunday, hours after being sworn in as the state's 14th chief minister, to review law and order and key public safety measures. The meeting, held at the Secretariat in Chennai, was attended by Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar, Director-General of Police Sandeep Rai Rathore, and other senior IAS officers.
Vijay directed officials to strengthen initiatives for women's safety and intensify actions against illegal drugs and psychotropic substances. He also reviewed ongoing policing strategies across the state. New cabinet ministers joined senior bureaucrats in calling on the Chief Minister and presenting floral tributes.
Later in the day, Vijay visited Periyar Thidal, where he paid homage to the late social reformer E.V. Ramasamy, known as Periyar. He was received by Dravidar Kazhagam president K. Veeramani, to whom he presented a shawl and flowers. A photograph released by the Department of Information and Public Relations showed a portrait of former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai displayed in Vijay's office.
The Chief Minister's first day focused on administrative continuity and symbolic gestures aligning with the state's Dravidian political traditions. Officials confirmed that policy reviews and cabinet coordination will continue in the coming days.
