Jharkhand Opposition Leader Demands NIA Probe Over Gangster's Police Nexus Allegations

Babulal Marandi, Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, on Sunday wrote to Chief Minister Hemant Soren urging an NIA investigation into alleged collusion between the Dhanbad police and criminal networks, following serious allegations by gangster Prince Khan in videos posted from abroad. Marandi demanded the immediate removal of Dhanbad Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar and submitted compiled video evidence with his letter, warning of a collapse in public trust.
The videos, according to Marandi, contain direct accusations by Khan against SSP Prabhat Kumar, alleging protection of coal and land mafias and threats to local businessmen. Police have stated Khan is operating from Pakistan and have initiated property attachment proceedings under court orders. Marandi described the situation in Dhanbad as a breakdown of law and order, with gangsters exposing police rather than the other way around.
Marandi, a former Chief Minister and BJP leader, alleged that the nexus extends to illegal land seizures and undermines the impartiality of the entire state police force. He warned that unchecked extortion and political patronage could push Jharkhand into a state worse than 'Jungle Raj'. The matter has been formally referred to the Chief Minister for action.
The government has not yet responded to Marandi’s letter. The court-ordered property attachment of Khan is ongoing, and the state police continue to investigate his network. The Jharkhand High Court is expected to review related cases next week.
