Sultanabad police rescued 42 cattle and seized two vehicles during separate operations against illegal transportation at the Dubbapalli check post in Peddapalli district on Sunday. The drive targeted smuggling of bovine animals across state borders.
Police intercepted a container lorry heading to Hyderabad early Sunday morning and recovered 33 bulls from the vehicle. Later in the day, officers stopped a van carrying nine cows bound for an undisclosed location in Karnataka from Chhattisgarh.
The crew of the van, identified as Syed Shabad and Moiuddin, were taken into custody. A case has been registered against them under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and state cattle preservation laws.
The rescued animals were transferred to a nearby goshala for care. Police have intensified checks at border posts to curb illegal movement of cattle.
