Mumbai Police arrested Samir and Jatin on Wednesday, adding two more names to the roster of suspects in the Tiger Shroff shooting case. The arrests brought the total number of people in custody to 10. Both men are alleged to have helped the shooters acquire the weapons used in the attack.
Jatin, the ninth accused, had traveled to Amritsar with Kunal and Sumit to procure the arms. Samir, the tenth, is a friend of Jatin and had stayed with the three shooters in Andheri. The trio kept changing accommodations to avoid police tracking. Investigators are now mapping their movements, checking how often they moved lodges and whether the changes were a deliberate strategy to evade surveillance.
The shooting itself was a near-disaster. Two gunmen opened fire on Shroff's BMW, while a third waited on a motorcycle nearby. The actor's driver was injured, and a stray bullet hit a fan waiting outside the football ground. Shroff survived only because the second shooter's gun jammed. The three shooters were later caught in Rajasthan's Kota while trying to flee to Nepal via Delhi.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility. Anil Pandit, a gang member, released an audio clip threatening to kill people close to Salman Khan. He alleged the gang had warned Shroff, who ignored it. Police sources say the gang originally targeted another high-profile figure but shifted to Shroff after seeing fan reels that suggested he lacked police protection. The shooters told police they wanted to spread fear in Bollywood.
The Mumbai Police are now conducting a technical analysis of the gang's audio clip. They will match the voice to their database to identify who issued the threat. The case is expected to see more arrests as investigators trace the network of support the shooters received in Mumbai.
