Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Sunday approved 200 units of free electricity for domestic consumers using up to 500 units bi-monthly, signing the order shortly after his swearing-in at Chennai's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The decision affects households across the state and marks one of his first policy actions in office.
Vijay also signed orders to establish the 'Singa Pen Special Force' for women's safety, a statewide unit mandated to respond immediately to complaints related to women. Additionally, he approved the creation of an Anti-Narcotic Task Force comprising 65 police stations across 37 districts and nine cities to target illegal drugs and psychotropic substances.
Later in the day, Vijay visited the Secretariat, where he signed further administrative files. A photograph from the office showed a portrait of former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai displayed in the background. Senior ministers and IAS officials called on him to offer greetings.
The state government appointed senior IAS officer P. Senthil Kumar as Secretary-I to the Chief Minister, with G. Laxmi Priya, IAS, named Secretary-II. The official social media handle @CMOTamilNadu began disseminating updates under the new administration.
