India will keep a standby group of bowlers in New Zealand to shield key pacer Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the two‑test series that starts on Nov. 19.
The tour’s calendar—five T20Is, five ODIs and two Tests—leaves little margin for error, making workload management a full‑time job for the staff.
Morkel said the backup plan will be fine‑tuned after assessing New Zealand conditions, giving the team flexibility to switch bowlers when the pitch changes.
Arshdeep Singh, already integrated into the rotation, was singled out by Morkel as a solid option for the red‑ball game, with the former South African fast bowler noting, "He ticks all the boxes, so he’ll be fine if needed with the red ball."
As the squad readies for the next phase, the focus will shift to the final ODI series, where the same rotation strategy will be tested before the Tests begin.
