In September, India's gems and jewellery exports jumped 9.43% year‑on‑year to $2.95 billion, outpacing the sector’s 2.96% average growth last year and pushing cumulative exports for April‑September up 3.07% to $14.30 billion.
Gold jewellery exports leapt 34.01% to $1.19 billion, with studded gold jewellery alone up 50.24% to $812.62 million, while plain gold saw a modest 8.76% rise to $378.03 million.
Polished lab‑grown diamonds grew 40.72% to $151.43 million in September, part of a 17.08% first‑half surge that lifted the category’s exports to $685.10 million.
Natural diamond exports fell 5.44% to $1.29 billion, yet volumes edged higher by 4.64% to 83.98 lakh carats, indicating a shift toward lower‑value, higher‑volume shipments.
Imports surged 25.48% to $2.08 billion, with rough diamond imports up 15.14% to $1.05 billion; value fell 16.81% to $5 billion over April‑September while volume rose 16.47% to 592.24 lakh carats, underscoring supply‑chain tightening.
Analysts see the export uptick as a bullish sign for listed jewelry firms, projecting a 5–10% revenue increase in Q1 2027, though margin pressure may persist amid global supply constraints and rising raw‑material costs.
