Ranabaali Stalls At ₹78 Crore As Vijay Deverakonda Film Falls Short Of Budget

The chatter on social media is loud, but the numbers on the screen are quiet. Ranabaali has just crossed the two-week mark with a worldwide gross of ₹78.90 crore, a figure that looks impressive on paper until you cross-reference it with the reported production budget of ₹120 crore to ₹150 crore. We are talking about a massive gap here. For a film that generated significant buzz around its colonial-era resistance narrative, the current trajectory suggests the hype hasn't quite translated into sustained theatrical loyalty.

Let’s look at the daily grind. On Day 14, the film netted just ₹95 lakh in India, a 5% dip from the previous day. That’s across 1,449 shows. The occupancy rate tells the real story: 14.03% overall. Morning shows saw 12.67%, while night screenings barely scraped 13%. Weekends are keeping the lights on—Saturday and Sunday pulled in nearly ₹3 crore each—but the weekday slump is steep. Monday was ₹1.25 crore, Tuesday ₹1.10 crore, and by Thursday, we were under the ₹1 crore mark. It’s a classic decay curve, but sharper than most high-budget releases can afford.

The financial engineering behind the scenes offers a slight cushion, but not enough to call it a win yet. Samayam Telugu reports that star remuneration alone consumed ₹30 crore to ₹60 crore of that budget. Pre-release deals—digital and satellite—recovered an estimated ₹42 crore to ₹60 crore before the first show whistled. So, the theatrical run doesn't need to cover the entire budget, but it needs to cover the distribution costs and the remaining production dip. With ₹57.30 crore net domestic and ₹12.35 crore overseas gross, the film is still in the red if you factor in theatre margins and distribution fees.

Is it a flop? Not necessarily. It’s a mid-tier performer in a high-stakes environment. The first week was strong at ₹45.20 crore, but the second week has slowed to ₹12.10 crore so far. The question now isn't whether Ranabaali will make money, but how much more it needs to reach the break-even point. With the 'Koffee With Karan' row providing external noise, the film is fighting for shelf space in a crowded market. The next seven days will decide if this period piece becomes a long-tail earner or fades into the archives.
