Six Missing After Boat Capsizes in Yamuna in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur

Six people, including five children and one adult, went missing after a boat capsized in the Yamuna river in Hamirpur district, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday evening, May 6, 2026, police said. Three others were rescued by the boatman, identified as Dheeru, around 7 p.m. near Kutubpur Patiya hamlet under Bhauli gram panchayat in the Kurara police station area.
The nine passengers, excluding the boatman, were returning from a river island when the vessel lost balance and overturned. The missing are Akanksha (9), Rani (9), Brijrani (25), Labhyansh (5), Mahesh (6), and Aditya (11). Rescuers identified the survivors as Vishnu, Rinku, and Parul. The National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force have launched search operations.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered an immediate investigation into the cause of the accident and directed senior police and administrative officials to oversee rescue efforts on-site. He called for intensified operations and warned against negligence, instructing officials to provide full support to affected families.
BJP MLA from Hamirpur, Manoj Prajapati, confirmed ongoing search efforts and said compensation would be provided to families as per government rules. The district administration will submit a detailed incident report to the Chief Minister.
