The Telangana Anti‑Corruption Bureau filed a petition today to impound the passports of BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao and three other accused officials, citing a Rs 55 crore diversion of state funds for the 2023 Formula E race.
The case stems from money released without cabinet, finance or RBI approval during the former BRS government, and was formally lodged on December 19, 2024 after the Congress took power. A chargesheet filed in March 2026 names KTR as the prime accused.
KTR, who appeared in the Nampally Special ACB Court on September 18, denied any wrongdoing and said he would cooperate with the judicial process. He accused the ruling Congress government of “malicious propaganda” aimed at the opposition, while defending the race as an effort to elevate Hyderabad’s profile and spur investment in electric‑vehicle technology.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for October 30, where the decision on passport impoundment and further proceedings will be made. The outcome will set a precedent for how state‑funded sporting events are scrutinised in Telangana.
