Nikhil Kamath, the co‑founder of India’s largest discount broker Zerodha, told a packed audience at the NDTV World Summit that if Zerodha were to vanish, he would launch a content‑creation business with just Rs 10 lakh in his pocket.
He added that unlike most ventures, content production starts with zero capital and, once it gains traction, can be monetised through sponsorships, subscriptions or advertising, giving him a 'low‑risk' pathway to rebuild.
Kamath also dismissed the idea of stepping into traditional news media, preferring instead to pioneer a fresh form of social media; he has already tested several prototype apps aimed at fostering community interaction outside the confines of mainstream platforms.
He cited China’s home‑grown ecosystem as a model, noting that fragmented markets often spawn local alternatives that later expand globally, and said he wants the new platform to appeal to both Indian and overseas users.
The founder will convene a small team to refine the app’s features in the coming weeks, with an eye toward a beta launch later this year, after securing seed funding from early‑stage investors.
