Actress Tanishaa Mukerji has revealed that the physical transformation she underwent for the 2005 Yash Raj Films release 'Neal 'n' Nikki' resulted in hormonal imbalance due to an extremely strict diet and exercise regimen. She said director Aditya Chopra asked her to lose weight and appear toned during a photo session, prompting her to overhaul her body to meet the film's requirements.
The actress, sister of Kajol and daughter of Tanuja, said she followed a disciplined routine to achieve the look but found it unsustainable, later developing hormonal issues as a consequence. She described the transformation as an obsessive pursuit of the director's vision, which ultimately affected her health.
'Neal 'n' Nikki', directed by Arjun Sablok and co-starring Uday Chopra, faced negative reviews upon release. Mukerji said she watched the film objectively and accepted audience criticism, though she does not hold herself responsible for its failure, emphasizing the director's role in shaping a film's outcome.
Mukerji stated actors operate within the limits set by directors and that creative tools like camera, lighting, and editing are key to elevating a performance. She last appeared in the 2024 film 'Luv You Shankar'.
She continues to assess her past roles critically and remains active in the film industry, with her comments reflecting on long-term health trade-offs in pursuit of cinematic roles.
